Election 2008You are in: Guernsey > States of Guernsey > Election 2008 > Scott Ogier ![]() Scott Ogier. Scott OgierScott Ogier is a candidate standing for election in the St Sampsons parish. People ask me if I'm still enjoying the States. I say I never started, I think if you are enjoying being a States member you are doing it wrong. However, I am asking you to vote me in for another term. I believe it would be irresponsible to serve one term, learn the ropes, do the groundwork, gain invaluable experience and then bow out. I've started things I need to finish, the obvious example being the solution to our waste. We're into the final stages and I want to be there every step of the way to make sure we get the facility we deserve. We also need to get some tidal power systems in the water and generating electricity, I am working on this as a member of the Energy Policy Steering Group and I want to see this up and running while I am in the States. The world is changing; we have to face up to the effects of Climate Change, prepare for its consequences and strengthen our defences. We are also heading into a future where oil will be scarcer and more expensive and we must prepare to meet the challenges of such a world. We need strong leadership with clear vision. Government money is going to be tight and we need to manage to do more with less, no more vanity projects, money needs to be spent, not where it is desirable, but where it is necessary - on schools and hospitals, not court buildings and marinas. The last four years have been a steep learning curve and I hope to be allowed to build on that foundation, serve this next term and continue to deal with these issues to the best of my ability.
