Sam Peckinpah's graphic and multi-layered war masterpiece polishes up well on DVD.
The picture quality has obviously been sourced from a good print and looks very fresh indeed on disc. Even the dark trench scenes remain clear and free of grain.
The 2.0 sound mix is mono and a rather weak effort at that too. There's no distortion to complain about, but it does lack power. One can only imagine how this film would transform if re-mixed into 5.1.
Included on the disc is a photo gallery with plenty of behind-the-scenes shots of Peckinpah and the cast at work and play. It's a nice addition, even if it does leave one wanting more.
