About This Event
“I wanted to ask…” A woman is suspended in the immediate aftermath of a death. She recounts fantasies and memories of love, loss, sex and sickness: the starting point for 'Lash', Rebecca Saunders’s and Ed Atkins’s uncompromising interrogation of passion, truth and the very physical business of being human.
Critics were astounded when this new opera – Saunders’s first - was premiered in Berlin in 2025. “The music grabs you by the shirt-front and holds you in a vice-like grip”, was one verdict. Now, as part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s day of Total Immersion in Saunders’s music, we present the UK premiere, in a concert performance featuring all four of the soloists from that acclaimed first production. This is 21st century music drama at its most intimate, and its most essential.
Sung in English with English surtitles.
Contains adult themes and strong language which some people might find offensive. Not suitable for audience members under the age of 16.
Tickets on general sale from 24 April.
