Poetry offers a uniquely powerful way of describing the joys and the challenges of neighbourhood and community. Meet three poets whose work is built from the places that shaped them.

Griot Gabriel is a Manchester poet whose award-winning poem ‘Where I’m From’ pays homage to his local communities of Longsight and Ardwick: Liz Berry is an award-winning poet from the Black Country; and Kimberly Campanello is Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds, with her work drawing deftly on her Irish-American-Italian heritage. In today's event Campanello discusses Seacroft, a neighbourhood in Leeds where she has worked closely with local community radio station Chapel FM and with residents to create a remarkable and uplifting new work of collective poetry. 'The Seacroft Canto' is inspired by some unlikely source material - Dante's Inferno - and although it is set in one Yorkshire neighbourhood, it could speak for every British community that has a proud sense of place even in hard times. In today's event, community participants join Campanello to present the poem they co-wrote.
