Between 21 and the 25 August, essexdance spent a week exploring dance. The Boswell School in Chelmsford was full of energy and creativity daily between 10.30am and 3.30pm every day as young dancers spent a week choreographing new dances. The focus this year was every much on collaboration between professionals and the young people, with dance specialists on hand to help the dancers on their way to creating a masterpiece, which they performed for their friends and family. This year, a graffiti artist was also invited along to get creative alongside the dance. Throughout the week, the young people who took part had the chance to do some graffiti. For example, they made t-shirts for themselves which you can see them modelling in some of the photos. “This years summer school brings a new look at dance by adding graffiti to the fun," said Gill Langley before the event. Gillian is the Marketing Co-ordinator for essexdance, and she was expecting, "an interesting and rewarding week.” And I'm sure she wasn't dissappointed. essexdance also ran a course called 'In Step', which brought hip hop dance to young people aged between 12 and 18. Lvone Robinson led a group of all ability, allowing them to hone their dance skills and pick up some new moves. This too let the dancers work towards a performance for their friends and family. If you are interested in essexdance, auditions for the Chelmsford Youth Dance Company are on October 1st. Make sure you check out their website. |
