By Rachel Thorpe A day of dancing at Runnymede Main School, Castle Point included lessons in belly dancing.
On Tuesday 22 August, Castle Point Borough Council organised a day of dance at Runnymede Main School. I caught up with one of the organisers, Emily Redgate. Emily is the Community Development Officer for arts in Castle Point.
So who organised the day?
"Strictly Dance Fever was just one of the activities that was arranged as part of the Castle Point Summer Holiday programme. Five different partners worked together to run a range of activities for a range of ages covering every day of the holidays."
So what was it all about?
Strictly Dance Fever was a day of dance. We started with Belly Dancing. Local Belly Dancer Karima showed the participants the basics of Belly Dancing then taught them a routine. She finished with showing them how a Belly Dancer uses a veil.
What else did you learn?
After this another teacher joined us to teach Ballroom & Latin. We learnt how to samba, cha cha cha and salsa. After lunch the participants were taught a street dance routine before having a go at their own choreography. When making up their own dances they could use moves from any of the dance styles they had learnt that day.
Overall, how did it go?
We had a brilliant day and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
