Friday 30 October will be the perfect opportunity to hold your own storytelling event. You can enjoy the world's oldest form of entertainment by telling your own tales, and encouraging other people to share their stories, experiences and memories. 

This unique annual event is a way of encouraging parents, teachers, librarians, carers and community workers to act as storytelling activists for the telling and sharing of stories in their area. It is also an opportunity to convey the important message that storytelling can be of value to everyone. Communication through stories plays an integral role in our relationships with each other.

Tell-a-Story Day was launched in 2001 and can be celebrated in a variety of different venues. It doesn't matter if the storytelling is fiction or non-fiction, a tall tale, or folk lore. Today is a day to tell them all. Stories can be from a book, other written material, or from memory.

The Scottish Storytelling Centre website provides resources for anyone wanting to organise their own DIY fun, free and easy storytelling event.
