Swanage Blues and Roots Festival

Following the success of the seventh annual blues festival last March, organiser Steve Darrington decided to launch an extra event this autumn. The Swanage Blues and Roots Festival brought a taste of New Orleans to the Dorset seaside town.

Over 24 music acts performed at a new music festival in Dorset this October, with live music at 16 pubs and hotels around Swanage.

Organiser Steve Darrington originally got the idea for the festival after a life spent touring the country as a musician - a life that had to change when Steve became ill.

Now a wheelchair user, Steve has organised the festival in his own time, and it's his love of live music that motivates him.

And it was the success of a similar music event back in March that encouraged him to arrange this one - people were keen to come back for more.

'Something for everyone'

Steve included music styles for everyone, covering electric, acoustic traditional and modern representations of Blues and Roots music.

There was also an open mic event each day, designed to encourage less experienced and newer musical talent up on to the stage.

The festival will be returning to Swanage next March, which gives you plenty of time to polish your performance!
