You will need
  • Plain T-shirt
  • Pencil
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Sheets of sand paper
  • Sheet of cardboard (to go inside the T-shirt)
  • Coloured wax crayons
  • Iron
  • Kitchen roll

🛑 Before you start 🛑

This make requires you to use an old t-shirt, a hot iron and sharp scissors. Please make sure you have permission to use your clothing and a grown-up to help.

👕 How to Make an up-cycled football T-shirt ⚽️

  1. First of all decide what you want to put on the back of your shirt - what name and what number.

  2. With a pencil draw your chosen name and the number on the paper. We found capital letters work well for this.

  3. Cut out the letters and numbers with scissors. You'll use these to create stencils to draw around when marking out your crayon design.

  4. Place the paper letters backwards on the sand paper and draw around them with your crayon. Once you have the outline, colour in the letter/number on the sandpaper pressing hard to transfer the crayon wax. Remember to write everything BACKWARDS, this is so when you transfer your design, it will be the right way round!

  5. Once the letters/numbers are drawn on the sandpaper, take your old t-shirt and lay it out nice and flat so the back of the shirt is facing upwards. Place your marked sandpaper onto the shirt where you want the design to be printed. Put a piece of cardboard inside the shirt, so the colour doesn't bleed through when you iron.

  6. Grab a grown-up to help you when using hot tools or ask them to do it for you! Put some kitchen roll over the sandpaper and carefully iron over your design. This will take a couple of minutes to do this so the wax melts into the shirt.

  7. Gently peel off the design from the T-shirt, to reveal the transferred design.

  8. Wear with pride and show off your new super cool T-shirt!
