Going for a fitting at a bespoke tailors is a gentlemanly business and one that cannot be rushed. It follows a long lineage of history where certain norms and traditions are respectfully observed. The concept of “ready to wear” has no place in this painstaking process of artisan craftsmanship, which will see the tailor take up to 40 different measurements to create a unique blueprint of a customer's body.
It is a craft which has remained unchanged for centuries, and where the style is all about the cut. Only after several fittings and at least eight weeks work does the suit finally leave the tailors bound for a customer who will have a suit for life (and a somewhat lighter pocket).
