Mary Quant

Mary Quant remains the enduring image of the 60s designer. With her signature daisy logo, Quant is one of the most famous names to emerge from Swinging London and pioneered the high street revolution. Quant is still most notably associated with the invention of the liberating mini skirt.

• Born on 11 February, 1934 in Kent
• Studied illustration at Goldsmiths College before taking a job with a couture milliner
• 1955 Opens first shop called Bazaar on the King’s Road, London
• 1961 Opens second Bazaar boutique in Knightsbridge
• 1965 Exporting designs to the U.S.
• 1966 Appointed an OBE for her services to the fashion industry
• Late 1960’s launches her last big fashion statement – hot pants!

• 1988 Designed the interior of the Mini (1000) Designer car
