AbolitionYou are in: Bristol > Abolition > Guests line up for Afrika Eye film festival ![]() Image from the film No Time To Die Guests line up for Afrika Eye film festivalTwo weeks of films focusing on African cinema will be shown across Bristol during the Afrika Eye film festival at venues such at The Cube and the Arnolfini. The event is being organised by former Bristolian film maker Ingrid Sinclair and will include work by local communities. Ingrid trained at Bristol Film Makers Co-op in the late seventies and has since worked in Manchester and Newcastle before heading to Zimbabwe where she set up a film company. One piece of her work, Flame, was selected for the Cannes Film Festival and later won the Nestor Almendros Human Rights Watch Award in New York. One of the special guests, Gabriel Mondlane, chair of the Mozambican Association of Film-makers, will lead a workshop on the history of movie making. His visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the founding of Beira, Mozambique's second city which is twinned with Bristol. Gabriel will also personally introduce the film Senegalese Ceddo, in honour of director Ousmane Sembene, during his time in Bristol. The festival will including screenings of the comedy No Time to Die from Ghana and Kwaws Ansah's Heritage Africa. There will be UK premieres from countries such as Congo, Mozambique, Ghana and Zimbabwe. The event is being supported through Bristol City Council's Abolition 200 project.
