Sneak preview of new Match of the Day titles

As I promised last week we can bring you some exclusive ‘behind-the-scenes’ footage of some of the Premier League stars appearing in the new Match of the Day titles.

Our researcher Zak Oomer, did a fantastic job of getting players and managers all around the country to take part.

In the video linked above, you’ll see the likes of Aaron Lennon, Bobby Zamora, Kevin Doyle and others in a studio surrounded by green walls.

The reason for all the green is so we can cut the players out using a sophisticated computer programme and place them in a three-dimensional world that we’ve created for the new titles.

When we were shooting Robert Green of West Ham we had to use a different colour screen for cutting his footage as his goalkeeping kit was green!

Producer Jason Bernard and design director Victor Martinez have done a fantastic job in creating a set of titles that work beautifully with the new set and all our other new graphics.

Another change from last season is that Match of the Day 2 now has its own unique set of titles, so there are even more players and managers to look out for on a Sunday night.

All the new elements should be the perfect start to the new season.

I hope you enjoy the footage - make sure you watch Match of the Day on Saturday to see the final result! (2215 on BBC ONE and this website).

New season, new look

It seems like no time at all since the drama of the last day of the 2006/07 Premier League season... and already the wait is nearly over. And with the new campaign comes a new look for Match of the Day and Match of the Day 2.

We've made various changes, some subtle, some more obvious than others. The first change you’ll probably notice is a new set of titles for both programmes. Gone are the badges emerging from stadiums across the country - the new titles include some of the Premier League’s biggest names.

We’ll be able to reveal more about the new titles, as well as show you some exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, a little later in the week.

As well as new titles we also have a new set and new programme logos. The new set is a first for BBC Sport. Instead of two medium size sets, one for Match of the Day and one for Match of the Day 2, we now have a single set for all of BBC Sport’s output.

As you can see from the pictures, it’s a fantastic space. The set is made up of backlight perspex panels that can be lit up in any colour. Wrapping around the back of the set is a huge video wall that we can project any image we design on to, giving each of the programmes a unique look.

The quality of the images from the seven projectors and High Definition server are amazing and will bring the set to life.

Incorporated into the new set are new programme logos, which we've updated to give them a more contemporary and three-dimensional feel. The logos will also have a much greater prominence throughout the programmes.

The plan is to use them as devices to introduce match edits on the Saturday night programme and they’ll also feature in highlights of the goals from the Saturday games on the Sunday programme.

I hope you’ll like the improvements we’ve made. I’m sure you’ll want to give us plenty of feedback!
