The Brazilian Passion

Dear Friends,

It's me again and i know that i'm somewhat delayed but I had a weekend very rush due to the thesis of course that I finished last month, and also we had a holiday on last 15th and it was a good opportunity to close up this matter.

It was a good opportunity to clean up my house and to take a glance on some old papers and other things...

...and thinking about a theme for the my next post.

As you know, I have had some difficult to take pictures from the net due to the copyright. We have to have a strict concordance with the rules, and I'm trying to take my own pictures. Difficult, some times due to time. Anyway, I'm here again...

Today, we'll talk about passion (in Italian - passione) (In Brazilian - Paixão). Sometimes this felling make us to do some insanities (^_^).

I'd like to talk about a Brazilian Passion - The FOOTBALL.

It's really amazing how the people likes (LOVE) this game. It's more than a simple to like, it's a religion. It's into our soul. It's an indivisible thing for us (Brazil and Football).

Let's together on this trip.

No other sport as far as mobilizing the Brazilian football, as authoritative as a national passion. This involvement has always puzzled historians. After all, what were the factors that caused a game created in England became so popular in Brazil?

It has always been popular - It's amazing and it was a PhD thesis of Professor Leonardo Pereira from the UNICAMP (One of the most important University in Brazil), Pereira drops the thesis that in the early years of last century, soccer was a sport practiced only by the elite. The finding, surprisingly, was made through research in police documents. That's right. Was then required to notify the police desire to create a guild. "I identified dozens of small clubs, formed mostly by workers who were absent from the story usually told about football," says the professor. The explanation for this popularity is the ease of practice. "Of course, the exact mode of playing - with the correct size field, grass at some point ball with ideal weight - makes it an expensive sport. But how could they played small clubs," says Pereira. The historian notes that the sports in vogue at the time (rowing and horse racing) were exclusionary because they demanded money and structure. "On the street, even serving as an orange ball for those who wanted to play football. And so it was where the fans were also players."

Associated with fun - Another curious search of Mr.Pereira is the link with football fun. While the elite clubs like Flamengo (my heart club) and Fluminense, the concern of sports was linked to the appreciation of physical education to supplement the training (the idea of "healthy mind in healthy body" begins to gain momentum) in popular associations was a common mixing carnival and football. A club whose name was called particularly like Carnival Society Misery and Famine Football Club, "said Pereira. "In this local union did not seem a contradiction, because football and carnival were seen as ways like fun."

National representation - In 1934, the first time a black athlete, Leonidas Silva, is summoned to play a World Cup. This "permission" of the elite, which had hitherto kept blacks and african descent away from football official, stems from a change of mindset with regard to training hybrid culture of the Brazilian people: the mixing of races is now seen not as a problem and a burden but as an advantage. The culmination of this change is with the publication in 1933 of "Casa Grande e Senzala", by Gilberto Freire, who defends this positivity. "It is precisely at the time of the 1938 World Cup that national feeling is consolidated around the football.

Some images also crystallize in relation to black idols, as the Leonidas da Silva and Domingos da Guia, too. That is, the whole population comes to identify with a mixed selection, "said Pereira.

Conviction that Brazil plays "the best football in the world" - is in 1938 that the country is rooted in the feeling that Brazil plays soccer in a different way. "It is believed that Brazil has swings, football has the trickster, who values the dribble and that differentiates it from all other countries," he says. "This belief still exists. In the last Cup, Brazil was second in the competition - placing that would be cause for celebration for any country - but here we feel as a national tragedy."

Dear Friend, it's important to clarify that we made a little search about this theme, although I am a good "quarter back" (^_^).

We are very very happy to have a WorldCup here on next '14, and who knows...

...we'll meet here. You'll be welcome here!! (^_^)

Brazilian Popular Music or MPB

Dear Friend,

First of all, sorry for my delay, the day before yesterday was my Wedding Anniversary (14 years). It was a great day for us (Me and my family).

So, let's go ahead...

We can say that the MPB has emerged during the colonial period, from the mixture of various styles. Between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, blended into our land, the popular songs, the sounds of African origin, military marching bands, religious music and classical music of Europe. Also contributed in this musical cauldron, with its typical indigenous chants and tribal grooves.

In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, stood out in the cities that were developing and increasing demographically, two rhythms that marked the history of MPB: lundu and popular song. Lundu, of African origin, had a strong character and sensual dance a rhythmic beat. Already a popular song, of Portuguese origin, brought the melancholy and spoke of love hit a calm and scholarly.

In the second half of the nineteenth century, comes the little cry or "Chorinho" (In portuguese) from the lundu mixture of popular song and dance hall in Europe. In 1899, singer composes music Chiquinha Gonzaga " Abre Alas", one of the most popular carnival music history.

In the early twentieth century begin to emerge the foundation of what would be samba. The hills and the slums of Rio de Janeiro, begin to mix the drumming and " capoeira" with the "pagodes" and the hits in tribute to the deities. The carnival begins to take shape with the participation of mainly brown and black ex-slaves. The year 1917 is a milestone because Ernesto dos Santos, the Donga, is the first samba ever heard: "No Phone". That same year, appears the first recording of Pixinguinha important singer-songwriter of Brazilian popular music of the early nineteenth century.

With the growth and popularization of radio in the 1920s and 1930s, the Brazilian popular music grows even more. In this epoch of the Brazilian radio, we highlight the following singers and composers: Ary Barroso, Lamartine Babo (creator of your hair does not deny), Dorival Caymmi and Noel Rosa Lupicinio '. Also arise as the great interpreter of Brazilian popular music: Carmen Miranda, Francisco Alves and Mário Reis.

In the 1940s stands out, the Brazilian music scene, Luis Gonzaga, the king of the bay. " Speaking of the setting of the dry Northeast, Luis Gonzaga is success with songs such as, for example, Asa Branca and Assum Preto.

While the ballad still be successful with Luis Gonzaga and the new successes of Jackson do Pandeiro and Alvarenga and Ranch, took shape a new musical style: the samba. With a slower pace and orchestrated, the songs were mostly of love. Also in the musical context: Dolores Duran, Antonio Maria, Marlene, Emilinha Borba, Dalva de Oliveira, and Angela Maria, Caubi Peixoto.

In the late 50 (1950), there is the Bossa Nova, a smooth and sophisticated style. It is noteworthy Elizeth Cardoso, Tom Jobim and Joao Gilberto. Bossa Nova Brazilian beauties leads to the outside, a big hit, especially in the United States.

Television began to become popular in the mid-1960s, influencing the music. At that time, TV Record Festival organized the Brazilian Popular Music. These festivals are thrown Milton Nascimento, Elis Regina, Chico Buarque de Hollanda, Caetano Veloso, Edu Lobo. During this same period, TV Record launched the music program Young Guard, where emerge the singers Roberto Carlos and Erasmo Carlos and singer Wanderléa.

In the 1970s, musicians are starting to hit the four corners of the country. Nara Leão recorded songs by Cartola and Nelson Cavaquinho. Hailing from Bahia, Gal Costa and Maria Bethania are successful in large cities. The same happens with Djavan (coming of Alagoas), Fafa de Belem (Para coming), Clara Nunes (Minas Gerais), and Fagner Belchior (both of Ceara), Alceu Valença (Pernambuco) and Elba Ramalho (Paraíba) . In the Brazilian rock scene stand out Raul Seixas, Rita Lee appears in Funk scene Tim Maia and Jorge Ben Jor.

In the 1980s and 1990s begin to be successful new musical styles, which received strong influences from abroad. They are the decades of rock, punk and new wave. The live Rock in Rio, the early 80s, served to drive the rock nacional.Com a strongly urban theme and addressing social issues, youth and love, there are several bands. It is this period the group Paralamas do Sucesso, Legião Urbana, Titãs, Kid Abelha, RPM, Plebe Rude, Beth Hart, Capital Inicial, Engenheiros do Hawaii, Ira! and Red Baron. Are also successful: Cazuza, Rita Lee, Lulu Santos, Marina Lima, Lobao, Cassia Eller, Zeca Pagodinho and Raul Seixas.

The year 1990 also marked the growth and success of country music or country. In this context, with a strong romantic character, emerge in the music scene: Chitãozinho and Xororó, Zeze di Camargo e Luciano, Leandro e Leonardo and John Paul and Daniel.

At that time, the rap scene are: Gabriel, o Pensador, O Rappa, Planet Hemp, Racionais MCs and Hall 9.
The XXI century starts with the success of rock groups with topics aimed at teenage audiences. Examples: Charlie Brown Jr, Skank, Detonautas and CPM 22.

The Big Party of Democracy and a Little Introduction

Dear Friends,

First of all, I shall to tell you that is a pleasure and a honor to write you. I confess that it's a big responsibility to do it along November. When I remember about my first time here reading the Pocahontas (Marina)'s post it was amazing and exciting.

Now, I'm here.

Also, I confess that is a big responsibility to be the successor of Miguel Aguirre (From Peru), our last blogger. Miguel, you're a good guy. Take Care !

Let me introduce myself, my name is Natanael Santos, I'm 37 years old, married with my wife Evelyn and we have a little beautiful daughter called Lidia (3,5 years old). We were born on Rio de Janeiro (City), but we are living on Rio das Ostras (State of Rio de Janeiro) far from Rio de Janeiro (down town) around 200Km or 1 hour and 50 minutes from here, due to my job.

We called this region like "Lakes Region", it's a very beautiful region of the Rio de Janeiro State, and although we have lots of things to let you know about the Brazil's aspects and curiosities. I will talk about some aspects and characteristics of my own state (Rio de Janeiro) overall, due to the world cup and Olympics games.
The oil and gas industry; the politics aspects; the nature defense; the Amazonia; the Pantanal; the violence on big cities; the friendly people and all. You will find some photos of the "Lakes Region".

Cabo_Frio.rtf

It's really beautiful place.

I'm really eager for it.

Beautiful, Isn't?

The great event on my country was the election for our new president on last days.
It's was a big party of Democracy, for the young Brazilian democracy. So, I would like to describe it a little bit more...

The Brazilian presidential election was held in 2010 with two rounds of balloting. The first round was held on October 3 along with other elections as part of the 2010 general election. As no presidential candidate polled 50 percent of the vote on October 3, a runoff was held on October 31 between Dilma Rousseff and José Serra: Rousseff won with 56% of the second round vote.

The election determined the successor to current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of the Workers' Party. According to our Constitution, the president is elected directly for a four-year term, with a limit of two consecutive terms. Lula was thus not eligible to stand again as he has already served two terms after winning the elections in 2002 and was re-elected in 2006. This was the first time since the inaugural presidential election after the military dictatorship that he did not run for President.

I am young yet, and I am very very happy with this process here. Each Brazilian Citizen has the responsibility to choose the person that will be the "number one" of our nation. Each person has this responsibility and has, everyone, the same size, the same weight.
There no doubts that we have problems like each nation around the world, and I really have a strong, huge, deep respect for all the process to choose the leaders and main government leaders at all. Each culture, tribe, nation has their own process, democratic or not, to have their leaders.

Each process has curiosities and native people aspects. In fact, it's a long discussion and I am afraid that this is not correct place to discuss this kind of matter. So, just to think about it...

Dear Friends, it will be an exciting and amazing adventure to know a little more about our big, colored, happy, bold, beloved mother BRAZIL. Let's together? (In Portuguese "Vamos nessa?".

If you need further information of If you have any dobts (or curiosity), feel free to ask me (^_^).

Cheers - Natanael - Rio de Janeiro - Brazil
