BBC Proms 2010

This Proms season BBC Red Button brings a variety of new ways to watch and listen to this mainstay of the classical music season with a selection of services available alongside the regular broadcasts.

Player Commentary

In a first for BBC Proms this year we're introducing Player Com , an interactive feature giving viewers a new perspective on the Proms from the musicians themselves. By pressing the red button during the performance viewers can listen to live commentary from two or more orchestral players and hear their unique insights into the music as the work is played.

The service will be available for four Proms, starting with commentary for First Night of the Proms from Violinist Nicole Wilson, composer, conductor and choral director Ron Corp, and trumpeter Alistair Mackie.

Beethoven: Maestro Cam & Commentary

Everyone's heard of Beethoven... and now, during the BBC Four Beethoven Piano Concertos on 23rd July, viewers can press the red button to watch Maestro Cam and see BBC Symphony Orchestra chief conductor Jirí Belohlávek bring the master's music to life! We also invite you to stimulate your stave cells with expert commentary on the performance from conductor Matthew Rowe.

And if that weren't enough, Sky and Virgin customers will have the extra option of watching a Solo Cam of one of today's leading Beethoven interpreters, pianist Paul Lewis.

EastEnders - Exclusive Extra Scenes

Everyone's been talking about the recent happenings on Albert Square .

As Walford struggles to come to terms with the loss of Denise Johnson BBC Red Button will be offering fans a unique look at the man in the middle of it all with additional material relating to the week's unfolding storyline.

BBC Films - Red Button Shorts

On the weekend of 17th/18th July BBC Two is celebrating the work of BBC Films, and we're joining in the celebrations by showing two short films exclusively on BBC Red Button. The films have been produced by the BBC as part of schemes involving the UK Film Council and independent production companies and highlight our role in UK film production and developing talent.

Pop Art is a charming comic drama starring Bill Milner as a grieving boy who befriends a new classmate - who just happens to be made out of inflatable rubber. Press the red button at the conclusion of Is Anybody There? on Saturday 17th (also starring the precocious young Milner) to catch this quirky short co-produced by the UK Film Council.

The following night, Trimming the Fat is available under your red button after BBC Two's screening of The Damned United. This hilarious comedy stars Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) as a travelling businessman who bumps into a disreputable school-friend (Tony Way) before an important meeting at a motorway hotel. This short was produced as part of a scheme involving BBC Comedy and BBC Film Network to identify up-and-coming comedy talent.

Look out for more short films on the red button during future BBC Films screenings on BBC Two.

Dragons' Den

The Dragons are back for an eighth series and for the first time viewers will be able to press their red buttons to venture a little deeper into the Den. Find out why the Dragons chose to invest and discover how the entrepreneurs feel once they've escaped the rigours of their trial by fire. With behind the scenes footage and insights from all five Dragons the access-all-areas Red Button shows are a must for fans of the series.

On the Dragons' Den website BBC Radio 1's Dominic Byrne will be meeting members of the public who will be putting the products pitched each week through their paces. A new business section offers a glossary of terms that link through to relevant pitches from across the series and we also have latest updates from some of the famous faces that have previously pitched in the Den. All this alongside the regular comprehensive coverage of each week's main pitches.

CBeebies Red Button

BBC Red Button welcomes younger viewers and grown-ups with a sense of adventure to the big, bright and fun world of CBeebies interactive!

Now your children's favourite characters are at the heart of the interactive TV experience. A big, new and bright carousel now greets visitors providing easy access to games, other children's interactive services such as karaoke or quizzes, birthdays and star of the week messages.

Different Games
Reflecting the popularity of games for the young audience, a new range of activities has been specially created. The updated service brings with it brand new games for some of the most popular shows on CBeebies, including In the Night Garden and The Green Balloon Club. These new games replace the old ones, which had become increasingly outdated.

Satellite and digital terrestrial viewers will have slightly different offerings from one another. This has enabled us to offer the best games tailored to each system.

On race day itself a choice of three streams will be available featuring split-screen in-car camera feeds, leaderboards and rolling highlights, with the option to listen to either network or BBC Radio 5 Live commentary. After the end of each race on BBC One there will be an additional interactive programme analysing the weekend's events and picking up views from the paddock with race highlights often available the following day.

First Night of the Proms

"Try to imagine the whole universe beginning to ring and resound. There are no longer human voices, but planets and suns revolving." So Mahler described his Symphony No. 8, Symphony of a Thousand which, 100 years after its première and 150 years after the composer's birth, launches the 2010 BBC Proms in style.

Setting a hymn to the divine creative spirit alongside words from the closing scene of Goethe's Faust, the work expresses the idea of redemption through the power of love. Mahler uses huge forces: eight vocal soloists, a large orchestra and massed adult and children's choirs, tonight including choristers from three of London's great cathedrals and choirs from Crouch End to Sydney, as well as the BBC's own Symphony Chorus.

It promises to be a fitting start to the world's greatest classical music festival and a nod to the Proms' founder and conductor, Sir Henry Wood, who gave the work its UK première 80 years ago.

During the First Night performance digital viewers can press the red button to hear a unique insight into the evening's works as three orchestral players provide a live commentary on the music.

T in the Park*

Once again this year BBC Red Button will be heading to Kinross in Perthshire to bring you the best of Scotland's biggest music festival, T in the Park.

Eminem stops by on Saturday 10th for his only UK date in 2010 while other confirmed acts in this year's line-up include Muse, Jay-Z, Florence & the Machine, Dizzee Rascal, Hot Chip, Goldfrapp and the Black Eyed Peas. Meanwhile TitP crowd favourite Calvin Harris heads back under canvas to the scene of his riotous 2007 set, King Tut's Tent, and The Prodigy reprise their storming 2008 headliner performance on the Radio 1/NME Stage.

We'll be on hand right across the weekend, with coverage kicking off on Friday at 6pm running until 2am.
On Saturday and Sunday Sky and Virgin viewers will be treated to up to four streams of coverage while Freeview viewers have a dedicated channel of performances starting each afternoon.

Not long after the dust has settled on the weekend, Red Button is back with a 24 hours a day highlights service showcasing our favourite performances from T in the Park 2010. It starts at 7am on Monday 12th and runs until midnight on Sunday 18th July. Viewers of the 2-hour BBC Two highlights show starting at 11.05pm on Friday 16th can also enjoy an extended mix of festival highlights on red button, with Sky and Virgin viewers offered a choice of four video streams with full sets from many of the bands on the programme.
You can also preview the festival online at the BBC T in the Park website. Over the festival weekend all red button streams will be streamed live on the website, with on-demand performances and interviews available for seven days after the event.

Having given the 5 live audience a taste of peering into the studio during Danny Baker and 606 phone-ins under the red button, we've decided to set Alan Davies loose in full technicolour too with his new series Alan Davies' Armchair World Cup.

Viewers can sit back to watch Alan sporting lurid football shirts every Sunday from 1100-1200. He's joined by comedian Ian Stone and DJ Tayo Popoola with a quirky look at the tournament so far and a preview of the week ahead.

Audiences can also catch up on the weekend's football tables, fixture lists, sports news and details of upcoming commentaries on the BBC.

2010 World Cup

BBC Red Button welcomes younger viewers and grown-ups with a sense of adventure to a big, bright and fun new world. The CBeebies interactive service has relaunched!
Now your children's favourite characters are at the heart of the interactive TV experience. A big, new and bright carousel now greets visitors providing easy access to games, other children's interactive services such as karaoke or quizzes, birthdays and star of the week messages.

Different Games
Reflecting the popularity of games for the young audience, a new range of activities has been specially created. The updated service brings with it brand new games for some of the most popular shows on CBeebies, including In The Night Garden and The Green Balloon Club. These new games replace the old ones, which had become increasingly outdated.

Satellite and digital terrestrial viewers will have slightly different offerings from one another. This has enabled us to offer the best games tailored to each system.

World Cup 2010*

For the 2010 FIFA World Cup viewers with BBC Red Button will have access to a host of features including interactive coverage during live games, alternative commentaries and rolling highlights. Availability of Red Button content will vary depending on the digital TV provider, but they will include the following: Live coverage of BBC matches, which feature alternative commentary options, including Radio 5 Live. There will also be full replays of selected matches. At the end of the group stages viewers can choose between live coverage of two concurrent matches.
Highlights from all matches will be available after the final whistle and there'll also be rolling highlights and goal clips to help you easily catch up on the main action.

Child of Our Time

Child of Our Time is the unique 20-year project following 25 children across the UK who were born in 2000.

Following the BBC One show on consecutive nights two red button specials will each focus on one of the children.

First we meet Jamie Craven. Diabetic Jamie has already has a lot to contend with in his ten years. How has it affected his personality? And how will his personality help him cope as his mum and dad face divorce after 25 years together?

The second special focuses on Calvin whose mum is expecting her second baby with new partner James. James is the third father figure Calvin's had in his life. How are our chances of having a good long-term relationship affected by the success or failure of our parents' relationships?

RHS Chelsea Flower Show†

This year BBC Red Button will be joining expert gardeners and garden designers Carol Klein, Chris Beardshaw and James Alexander-Sinclair to bring you extra coverage of the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

James Alexander-Sinclair presents five programmes which will include tours of this year's show gardens and the Great Pavilion.
The Show Gardens are the traditional highlight at Chelsea and Red Button viewers will be able to take an in-depth tour accompanied by detailed commentary from the designers themselves. The films will also be available on the BBC website.

Meanwhile Carol Klein and Chris Beardshaw will be exploring the vast treasure trove that is the Great Pavilion. They will be speaking to the passionate exhibitors who have been growing and nurturing for weeks, months and sometimes years in preparation for the week-long show.

When Romeo Met Juliet

One city, two schools, eight weeks and a slot in a major theatre to put on a professional production of Shakespeare's most famous love story. What will happen when Romeo meets Juliet?

In BBC Two's new three-part series, Paul Roseby, the Artistic Director of the National Youth Theatre, brings together two schools from opposite sides of the same city in a unique experiment. Each school will be cast as one of the two feuding families at the heart of the play. Romeo and his Montague clan come from a Coventry city centre comprehensive while Juliet and the Capulets are from a Catholic school in the city's northern suburbs.

The unique Shakespeare performance by the two schools that forms the climax of When Romeo Met Juliet is available in its entirety on the red button, complete with special programme notes. Filmed live at Coventry's Belgrade Theatre and screened to an audience outside as well as inside, it features an original score performed by a band made up of pupils from both schools.
