Introduction
Christians believe in one God.
They follow the teachings of the Bible, which means that many of them feel they have a duty to show care to others.
They can choose to do this in different ways, such as reading or listening to teachings from the Bible, running community or charity events and helping others in need.
Watch: How do Christians show care?
Video that explores some of the ways Hannah shows care in her community.
Hannah: Hi, I’m Hannah, and I’m a Christian.
We follow the teachings of Jesus Christ which are written down in the Bible.
Christians believe that one of Jesus’s most important teachings is that you should love your neighbour in the same way that you love yourself.
Jesus uses the word love to mean to be caring, kind and forgiving. When he says neighbour, he means everyone.
Our church is an important part of the village where Christians come together. Other people can come too. There are helpful groups for people of all ages.
People from the church help at the school and at events in the village.
In the autumn, for the Harvest Festival, we do a special collection. We decorate the church to give thanks to God for all the good things he has given us. We also bring gifts of food, which is shared with people who need it.
The children get to help the ministers, and sometimes we help to collect money for charity.
Our church members also hold different events.
Like the village barbecue that we have every year.
Everyone in the village is welcome.
It’s really fun and helps to bring the community together!

Story: Jesus washes his disciples’ feet

Find out more about this Christian religious story.
Jesus had twelve special followers called his disciples.
They were his friends.
Jesus's disciples travelled with him, listened to him and learned from him.
One day, Jesus invited his disciples to eat dinner with him.
It was a sad time for Jesus because he knew that soon he would be leaving his friends and that one of them had betrayed him.
When everyone arrived, Jesus saw that his friends' feet were dirty from walking in the dusty streets.
Usually, the servant would wash the feet of visitors, so they were clean before dinner, so Jesus's disciples were surprised when he stood up and got a bowl of water and a towel.
Jesus knelt down and began to wash his friends' feet.
When it was Peter's turn to have his feet washed, he was upset.
Peter thought Jesus was too important, as the Son of God, to wash his feet.
"No, I won't let you wash my feet," Peter said to Jesus.
"If you won't let me wash your feet, you can't stay with me," Jesus replied.
Peter loved Jesus, so he let him wash his feet.
He offered to let Jesus wash his hands and head as well to show he would do whatever Jesus asked him to do.
"You don't need a bath Peter, you are clean," Jesus said and shook his head sadly.
"But not all of you are clean."
He was thinking of one friend who had betrayed him.
After he had washed everyone's feet, Jesus told his disciples they should learn from his example and serve others as well.
Jesus taught the disciples that it is more important to serve others.
