Step 2: Explore technician roles you don't need a degree for
If you like solving problems, creating things, helping people or working with technology, a technician career could be worth exploring.
Technicians work across lots of different industries, including science, healthcare, engineering, digital technology, film, fashion, music, film, TV, transport and the environment. You can do a T-level, apprenticeship or follow anther non-university route to get into these roles, meaning you can learn (and earn money!) while you work.
Bitesize has teamed up with Technicians: We Make the Difference to help you discover what technicians do, why their work matters and how you could start exploring technician roles that match your skills and interests.
What is a technician?
Technicians are skilled people who use practical knowledge to help make things work. They build, test, repair, design, support or improve the equipment, systems and technology that people rely on every day.
What do technicians do?
You might not always notice technicians as they work behind-the-scenes, but their work makes things happen – from helping create TV shows and live events, to developing new medicines and technology, protecting the environment and providing energy for our homes.

Step 3: Find jobs relating to your favourite subjects
Another way to think about what job you might want is to look at your favourite subjects and the careers that use some of the same skills. Here are another two easy steps to help you.

- Why not have a go at picking two subjects and watch one of the videos in that section, noting down which bits of the job would appeal to you most.

- Make a note of how many times they talk about school subjects and how they’ve helped them in their careers.
