The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) is one of the most famous franchises in the world. If you're a fan, you'll know the epic fantasy films are based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, which were first published in the 1950s.
In the books, we are first introduced to characters such as Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, and Gandalf. However, the novels are so detailed that much of what features in the books never made it to the big screen.
Peter Jackson’s six films (the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the three films that tell Bilbo Baggins’s story in The Hobbit) have collectively won more film awards than any other film series. On 17 December 2027, a new film, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, is set to be released.
