If you've been targeted by an investment scam, the important thing is that you don't panic, but you need to act quickly.

Firstly, you should stop all communication with anyone connected to the scheme.

If you've transferred money, contact your bank immediately and explain what's happened.

If you have shared your personal information, make sure to monitor your accounts for unusual activity.

Advice from the Treasury is to ensure you report it to Report Fraud, which you can do by calling 0300 123 2040 or through their website, external.

If you're in Scotland, you should report it to Police Scotland, which again you can do by calling 101, or via their website, external.

If you've been approached about an investment opportunity, you can also check details with the Financial Conduct Authority's Financial Services Register, which you can find on their website, external.

Remember, being the target of a scam doesn't mean you've been careless. These fraudsters are professionals and the schemes are designed to appear convincing.
