East Yorkshire's main holiday beaches all gained Blue Flags |
The four main holiday beaches in East Yorkshire have for the first time simultaneously won Blue Flag awards. Bridlington's South Beach has received the coveted award for the first time in 15 years and joins the resort's North beach on the elite list in 2007.
Hornsea and Withernsea beaches have also been recognised for the quality of their bathing waters and facilities.
Cleethorpes in NE Lincs also makes the list, as do Scarborough's North Bay, Filey and Whitby in North Yorkshire.
Scarborough's popular South Bay, however, was not deemed worthy by European environmental charity EnCams to join the 2007 list.
Councillor Jane Evison, East Riding of Yorkshire Council's tourism portfolio holder, said: "This is great news for the tourism industry in the East Riding.
"A lot of work goes into making sure our beaches are clean and safe, and that the water off our coast is clean.
"Mums and dads can rest assured when they visit the East Riding coastline that they are taking their children to a beach which meets the very highest standards."
