Public toilet sells for 35,000
Public toilets
The property is currently owned by the city council
A former public toilet in Bristol has been sold for 35,000 at auction.

The 24ft by 13ft lavatory, in the Totterdown area of the city, raised more than 10,000 above its expected selling price.

The stone-clad property, which was owned by Bristol City Council, has a male and female toilet block.

A man from Bristol bought the property during a "furious" auction. He said afterwards he planned to develop it into a barber's shop.

James Goodchild, of estate agents Maggs and Allen, said: "When the hammer came down at 35,000 it went to a round of applause."

The atmosphere among potential investors at the Bristol Golf Club auction was competitive, Mr Goodchild said.

He said: "Two people ended up in a bidding war for the loo, and I was surprised how much it went for."
