Cromer's landmark pier helps to make it a popular resort |
Blue Flags for cleanliness have been awarded to 14 East Anglian beaches this year - one more than in 2003. The region's flagged beaches are among a total of 122 across the UK to have passed stringent tests to win the award.
Norfolk's Great Yarmouth Central and Brightingsea in Essex are among the 20 new entries to the list.
Southend's Three Shells beach, also in Essex, has lost the flag which was awarded last year.
Flag winners in Essex are Brightlingsea, Dovercourt Bay, Southend Shoebury Common and Southend Shoeburyness East.
Tourist season
Norfolk beaches which will be flying the flag are Cromer, Great Yarmouth Central, Gorleston, Mundesley, Sea Palling and Sheringham.
Suffolk's Blue Flag winners are Felixstowe, Lowestoft North of the Pier, Lowestoft South of the Pier and Southwold Pier.
Many resorts regard the Blue Flag as key to a successful tourist season.
The award is only given to beaches which have the very best in facilities, offer life-saving equipment, maintain immaculately clean sands and have sea water clean enough to pass strict European laws.
