Police warn against letter scam
Police in Guernsey are warning of a mail scam in the island that can lead to identity theft.

Letters which have been promising lottery-sized winnings have been reported to police.

The letters asked recipients for bank details and family information which could allow access to accounts.

Sergeant Kevin Kreckler, of the police fraud department, said recipients of letters should not even think about giving their details.

He said: "They'll ask you for relatives' details and, inevitably, you'll give the same information you give your bank when you open an account; so gradually they obtain all the details they need to access your money."
