Island's bays pass pollution test
Havelet Bay
Tests show the bays are now suitable for swimming
Sewage pollution is no longer affecting two bays on Guernsey's east coast.

Tests show Havelet Bay, Fermain Bay and La Vallette Pools are now suitable for swimming and recreational use.

Seawater samples have been taken by the Environmental Health Department while work to replace sewage pipes along Glatengy Esplanade was carried out.

Up to two million gallons of raw sewage a day was being released into the sea at White Rock, prompting concern from islanders and environmentalists.

Tests carried out in September showed pollution above European Union guide levels.

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) handed over a petition to Guernsey States earlier this month calling for a full sewage treatment works.
