An engineering company has been fined �175,000 after two employees plunged to their deaths on a building site. John Laing Services Ltd admitted breaching safety practices, after Roy Anderson, 58, and Anthony Fear, 38, fell 45 feet (14 metres) in May 1995.
The men were working on a platform on Albert Embankment, London, when it overturned and they fell to the ground.
At Southwark Crown Court on Friday, the company pleaded guilty to a breach of the Health and Safety Act.
'Deep regret'
A spokesman for John Laing Services said the company changed working practices after the deaths and later moved out of the construction sector.
"John Laing deeply regrets the tragic accident that occurred in May 1995 at one of the sites controlled by its former construction business," he said.
"The passage of time cannot assuage the consequences for their family and friends."
The men were dismantling a mast-climbing platform, used to provide a stable area around masts, at Alembic House when the accident happened.
