Raw sewage is washed up on beach
Beachgoers have been warned to stay away from a section of Bridlington beach after raw sewage was found near where children were playing.

A member of the public out walking his dogs on Friday reported the pollution to the Humber Coastguard.

A coastguard rescue team from Bridlington found the sewage had been pumped out to sea but was being washed ashore by the incoming tide.

The affected area is about 600yards wide, officials said.

Mike Puplett from Humber Coastguard said: "We have been in close liaison with the Environment Agency, Yorkshire Water and the Health Protection Agency as well as the team from the local authority emergency planning office, in order to resolve this situation as quickly as possible.

"In the meantime we are warning beachgoers to stay away from this section of beach and we understand an emergency team from Yorkshire Water are on their way to investigate the incident."
