Bridlington's north and south beaches achieved the resort award
A beach guardian scheme has reaped rewards after eight East Yorkshire resorts received recognition for being "attractive" places to visit.

Beaches along the coast from Flamborough to Withernsea have been praised for their cleanliness, water quality and beach management.

Environmental campaign charity Encams praised the volunteers who carry out regular beach cleans and safety checks.

The area received four rural beach awards and four resort awards.

The beach guardians, who range from youth groups to local residents, adopt local beaches in a bid to make sure they are kept clean and safe.

They also ensure life saving equipment is in place and not tampered with.

Encams said they had been "invaluable in ensuring rural beaches were kept clean and safe".

Jane Evison, from East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "This is an excellent achievement and one that everybody can be proud of.

"It is absolute proof of what can be achieved by working partnerships."
